Community Awareness Club
The Community Awareness Club completed its first project for the 2009/2010 school year. Bridgewater Raritan Education Association’s Pride committee provided the funds for the project.

50 students created 50 octopus buddies made of yarn. 30 were delivered on October 28th to PSE&G Children's Specialized Hospital and 20 were delivered to Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital. The Halloween treats were distributed to patients that could not trick-or-treat due to medical issues. In addition, 60 foam Halloween scenes were designed and delivered to the Raritan Heath and Extended Care Center on October 30th. These holiday greetings were placed on residents' breakfast trays on Halloween.

Pride Supports 8th Grade Teachers and Students who celebrate “Heroes of the Heart”

Heroes of the Heart

Students at the Bridgewater Raritan Middle School learned what it means to give back to the community through a celebration of everyday heroes. Kym Weissburger, an 8th grade Language Arts Teacher and Toni Petraglia, an 8th grade Special Education teacher created a hands on project to support a unit of study on everyday heroes. The project started with the students reading articles aimed at helping them develop a working definition of a hero. After reading and discussion, the students had the difficult task of choosing every day heroes from the local community to honor. After some deliberation, students chose the Lyons Hospital so that they could honor the veterans from our local community.

Heroes of the Heart

In order to show their appreciation for the every day heroes at the Lyons Hospitals, students collected and assembled gift baskets that included t-shirts, shorts, socks, crossword puzzles and personal hygiene projects. In total, students were able to create 16 large gift baskets for the men and women at Lyons Hospital. PRIDE was excited to support this project by donating the baskets that were used in the assembly of the gifts and also food for celebration.
